This lovely lady had a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), a type of skin cancer at the bridge of her nose where the skin can be quite tight, resulting in difficult achieving direct closure of wounds following excision. Mr Elledge excised the lesion and reconstructed this at the same sitting under local anaesthesia (awake) with a bilobed flap repair. This uses a succession of smaller rotating flaps to effectively “borrow” laxity from higher up the nose between the eyebrows.

The result……clear excision margins and virtually scarless surgery a few weeks down the line with a happy patient and delighted surgeon!
BCCs are by far and away the most common form of skin cancers, with the majority occurring in the head and neck region. The areas where they appear can be among the most cosmetically sensitive and Mr Elledge uses all the skills he has acquired over his extensive training to ensure that patients come away with the best possible results. With clear margin rates of 98.7% and high satisfaction scores in surveys for his cosmetic reconstructions, he sets himself the highest of standards to ensure that patients come away smiling.
